Starting at 6pm on Wednesday, March 14th, current EAST Programs can get an official conference team photo taken. Photographers will be available before and after Gala. Please be sure to bring the school photo card that you receive at registration. These pictures are completely free of charge! A team photo will be sent with your conference feedback forms. Also, on your way in to take your seats for Gala, please stop by and check out some fun exhibits & demonstrations.

The Embassy Suites and Hotel Hot Springs are offering a special dinner option for EAST Conference participants on Wednesday, February 14. Facilitators: Keep in mind that if you use the (new) Digital Image Release Form for your students, you still need to save and upload a copy of the signed forms to your school roster in the MyPlanner section!
Reminder: Sponsored Competitions Deadline
The deadline for all sponsored competitions is 3 p.m., CST, January 19, 2018. Do not wait until the last minute! Submission forms will automatically disable at the deadline. If a form does not disable properly, submissions received after the deadline will NOT be considered. Upload speeds can vary and deadline days have a higher volume of student submissions, which can cause delays. EAST will have limited (if any) availability to assist with issues on the deadline day. Winter weather and technology malfunctions are not grounds for automatic extensions or exceptions. Good luck!

Mid-America Science Museum opened its 65,000 square foot facility that is situated on 21 wooded acres in Hot Springs almost 40 years ago. The museum's mission is to stimulate interest in science, to promote public understanding of the sciences and to encourage life-long science education through interactive exhibits and programs.
Mid-America Science Museum completed an extensive facility renovation and exhibit installation in 2015 thanks to a $7.8 million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The Museum now has nearly 100 hands-on exhibits to engage learners of all ages in scientific inquiry. The Oaklawn Foundation Digital Dome Theater presents educational films on astronomy, geology and meteorology. The Bob Wheeler Science Skywalk spans 280 feet into the forest canopy, 40 feet above the ground, this “exhibit” invites visitors to get up close and personal with nature while enjoying an intriguing array of bridges and nets. The Institute of Museum and Library Services recently honored Mid-America Science Museum with the 2016 National Medal for Community Service, the nation’s highest distinction bestowed on museums and libraries for outstanding service to the community. Opening in the summer of 2018 is the first permanent outdoor exhibit of its kind in Arkansas. The Oaklawn Foundation DinoTrek will feature 18 life-like dinosaurs in a natural setting.

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore, MD for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
The Arkansas Geographic Alliance is a nonprofit run by teachers and funded by the National Geographic Society. Our goal is to assist K-12 teachers to understand and use spatial concepts and technologies in their classes, regardless of disciplines. We also work with 7th grade Social Studies teachers covering the required Geography course, high school AP teachers, and run ArcGIS workshops for educators.
